I had been to Europe once before to play a festival in Belgium, but this was my first time in France. Ugly American that I was, I didn't even know ten words in French when I arrived in Paris. But you learn a few words and you meet a few people who speak "little bit English" and everything is cool. Wrote this song about moving on - about change. I couldn't resist the "continental" theme while sitting in these French cafes, writing on napkins. I moved on to Clermont-FD, and stayed for three months in a friend's rehearsal studio that was underground. We called it "the cave". I wrote a lot of songs there.

lyrics
Continental Breakfast
I’ll have a continental breakfast
In my usual chair
A flower on the table
At the booth of despair
Waitress please don’t look like you care
Might be more can I can bare
I’ll have a continental breakfast
For old time sake
Equal parts coffee
Tears and heartache
Waitress please don’t make the mistake
To set the table with a second plate
I’ll have a continental breakfast
And I’ll try to explain
Why I’m through with love
When I get on that plane
Waitress please remove my name
From that booth of regret and shame
I’ll have a continental breakfast
And never again
Will I cry in my coffee
‘bout what might have been
Waitress please forgive me for my sins
I aint never coming back this way again
I aint never coming back this way again
I aint never coming back this way
