It was freezing in Amsterdam and I had been fighting a cold for a couple of days. When I sang this song my temperature was 103 and I could barely breathe. There are places where I run out of breath at the end of a phrase. It used to drive me crazy when I heard the vocals on this song. Now I kind of like it.

lyrics
Four In The Morning
Four in the morning
I can't lay my poor head down
Four in the morning
I can't lay my poor head down
I wonder if she's happy
On the other side of town
It's four in the morning
Lord my blues won't go away
It's four in the morning
Lord my blues won't go away
My soul is as empty
As the place my baby used to lay
It's four in the morning
I just hang my head and cry
It's four in the morning
I just hang my head and cry
My tears are like a river
I'm so lonely I could die
