This is my version of Johnny Winter’s version of the song written by Mose Allison. I have been playing this song live for years. Although the song is about one of the worst prisons you could ever hope to find yourself in, it has wonderful lyrics with a great punch line. It also modulates a half step up 4 times; so unnecessary but so cool.
lyrics
Parchman Farm
I’m sittin’ down here on Parchman Farm
I’m sittin’ down here on Parchman Farm
I’m sittin’ down here on Parchman Farm
Lord I aint never done nobody no harm
I’m loadin’ that cotton in eleven foot sacks
I’m loadin’ that cotton in eleven foot sacks
I’m loadin’ that cotton is eleven foot sacks
Got a twelve gauge shotgun at my back
I’m sittin’ down here on number nine
I’m sittin’ down here on number nine
I’m sittin’ down here on number nine
All I did was drink a little wine
I’m going to be here for the rest of my life
I’m going to be here for my natural life
I’m going to be here for the rest of my life
All I did was shoot my wife
I’m goin’ to be here on Parchman Farm
I’m goin’ to be here on Parchman Farm
Great album, from start to finish. Psychoriffadelia is, from far, the best song of all (considering that there are other excellent songs as Hair of Dog and Stressknots). That song is in some parts "easy", steady and trippy and therefore it just smash is over a very heavy metal riff. Big up to the band! barrera_josea
